Care2Care: An App to Bridge the Gap Between Caretakers and Families in Memory Care.

Introducing Care2Care
Motivation & Impact
Memory-related diseases, which affect over 45 million people worldwide, make the communication between caretakers and those affected difficult. Our goal is to design a solution that will allow for a quick portrayal of residential information in hopes of improving the communication between residents and caretakers.
Problem Statement
Communication in memory care is not effective, and this is hindering the quality of life for those with dementia.
Human-Centered Design Methods

We visited Schenley Gardens 8 times, each learning different information about memory care. From this information, we added a “basic” resident information section. We also distributed color palette surveys to better understand what colors would best suit our vision.
Design Goals
This is what we intend for Care2Care to accomplish.
Improve communication and family integration in memory care
Quickly portray patient information
Aesthetic and easily updated interface
Enough talking, try it yourself
We want to show just how user-friendly the Care2Care app is to use, so we would like to invite you to use our product right here on our website!
Tip: Try switching to landscape to optimize viewing!
Here's our video, hope you enjoy!
Our Results
"That's beautiful. Very nice. Couldn't be easier. I really like it. I love it."
Rosemarie Malanosky, Schenley Gardens Memory Care Coordinator
“When I first started, I had nobody telling me who these residents are, what they like, or what they’re going to let me do and not do. I had to figure all this out on my own. This is awesome, I’m rooting for you guys.”
"I think it's on spot. It's easy to use and it's user-friendly. It'll help communication quite a bit"
Sandra Miller, caretaker at Schenley Gardens Memory Care Department
Judy Hornak, family of memory-care patient in an assisted-living community
On average*, Care2Care is
3X FASTER
than current memory care personal information sheets.
Here's how it works under the hood

Moving Forward
We believe Care2Care has so much more potential. Here are some things we would change in the future.
Functional search bar for larger assisted living facilities
Notification system for changes to resident's information
Android Studios development
Implementation for testing

We are a group of freshman engineering students at the University of Pittsburgh. We are all in the Art of Making, taught by Dr. Joe Samosky. Each of us have different motivations for completing this project, and each want to see Care2Care truly benefit the demenia population in assisted living facilities.
